By the numbers: Erin McLeod leads all Canadians in 2022 NWSL minutes played

Orlando Pride goalkeeper Erin McLeod led all Canadians in the National Women’s Soccer League with 20 appearances and 1,800 minutes played during the 2022 regular season. Now in her fifth NWSL season, McLeod also became the oldest Canadian to feature in the league at age 39.
 
This past season marked the NWSL’s 10th season since it was inaugurated in 2013 by US Soccer, Canada Soccer and the Mexican Football Federation. Including both the Challenge Cup and NWSL regular season, Canadians have featured in a record 22,225 minutes played in 2022.
 
Nichelle Prince of Houston Dash and Christine Sinclair of Portland Thorns FC co-led all Canadians with five NWSL goals each during the 2022 regular season. It was the first time that Prince led all Canadians in NWSL goals and the seventh time that Sinclair led or co-led all Canadians in NWSL goals. Prince also led all Canadians with three NWSL assists in 2022.
 
Goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan of San Diego Wave FC led all Canadians in NWSL clean sheets for the second season in a row. With eight clean sheets in 2022, Sheridan tied Stephanie Labbé’s record for most clean sheets by a Canadian in an NWSL season.
 
Seattle’s OL Reign, who featured Canadians Quinn and Jordyn Huitema, finished at the top of the 12-team table with 40 points to win the regular season title. OL Reign, Portland Thorns FC, San Diego Wave, Houston Dash, Kansas City Current and Chicago Red Stars all made the playoffs. The league’s playoffs start Sunday 16 October and conclude with the NWSL Championship on Saturday 29 October.
