Canada's women's U-17 team is in second place after one day at the CONCACAF Women's Under-17 Championship. Canada is tied with Mexico at three points, albeit ranked second on goal differential. Canada won 3:0 over Puerto Rico while Mexico won 6:0 over Jamaica in Group B action.

Group A action gets underway today in Macoya, Trinidad & Tobago. The United States, Trinidad & Tobago, Costa Rica and El Salvador are in Group A. Canada won its first match on the strength of goals by Rachel Lamarre, Shelina Zadorsky and Annick Maltais.

Canada, whose title sponsor is BMO Financial Group, will play three round robin games from 17-21 July. Should Canada finish first or second in its group, it will advance to the 24 July semi-final. Three of the final-four teams will win a berth in the inaugural FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup New Zealand 2008.
