Match Report

Canada conceded an early goal and, despite a good number of quality scoring chances, couldn’t come back as they conceded twice more in the second half and fell to 0:3 to Australia. The 15 October 2013 Men's International Friendly match was played at Craven Cottage in London, ENG.

Josh Kennedy opened the scoring early in the first half and the Aussies added to that lead with goals by Dario Vidosic in the 52nd minute and Matthew Leckie in the 79th.

Kennedy opened the scoring in the very first minute of the game as he headed home a cross. Of the 3,741 in attendance, most of the fans were supporting the team in yellow so they were pleased with the early goal.

Canada responded well and nearly had an equaliser on a number of occasions but Aussie goalkeeper Mitchell Langerak bailed his team out, as he was the star as he played for just the first 45 minutes.

In the seventh minute, Marcel de Jong crossed the ball to the right side that was headed back over by David Edgar. It came into the path of Simeon Jackson, whose half-volley was well struck but Langerak dove across to push the ball off the post and away.

On the half hour mark, Dwayne De Rosario found Edgar out on the right side again. He put a good cross in from the right side but Langerak denied Ricketts by tipping his header over for a corner.

It was a very young Canadian lineup in the second half as a number of the veterans were replaced and the Aussies got a second goal early as Vidosic was in the right place to direct a goal-bound shot past Borjan who couldn’t do much with it.

Leckie added the third in the 79th minute when he rose well to beat two Canadian defenders to the ball and head past Borjan.

Australia's Rhys Williams had the game's only yellow card in the 58th minute.

CANADA-AUSTRALIA LINEUPS:

In the first half, coach Benito Floro replaced injured Julian de Guzman with Kyle Bekker (25'). All other subsitutions came on in the second half as Ledgerwood was replaced by Stefan Cebara, Hume was replaced by Jonathan Osorio, De Rosario by Russell Teibert (all ’46), Jackson by Ashtone Morgan (54’) and de Jong by Samuel Piette (60’).

Australia had a lineup with Matchell Langerak in goal with Rhys Williams, Lucas Neill, Jason Davidson, and David Carney in defence. James Holland, Matthew McKay, Mark Bresciano, Dario Vidosic, and Josh Kennedy made up the midfield and attack.
