Substitute Fabrice Reuperné scored a 92nd-minute screamer to earn Martinique a 1:0 win over Canada in the first match of the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup on Sunday 7 July at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA.



Reuperné’s 25-yard half-volley seared into the top corner to snatch a late win for Martinique after both sides had traded chances throughout the match. The goal was scored on virtually the last kick of the game.



Marcus Haber had Canada’s best chance of the first half – but his header from inside the area was saved by Kévin Olimpa.



Canada went close to scoring the second half as well when Julian De Guzman’s cross was nearly deflected in for an own goal.



Martinique had a number of chances to open the scoring earlier in the match as well forcing Canadian keeper Milan Borjan into action on a number of occasions to keep things at nil-nil.



Canada started the match with Milan Borjan in goal; Nik Ledgerwood, Doneil Henry, David Edgar and Marcel De Jong across the back-line; Julian De Guzman and Samuel Piette in defensive midfield; Tosaint Ricketts, Will Johnson and Russell Teibert in attacking midifed; and Marcus Haber as the centre-forward.



Simeon Jackson replaced Johnson in the 51st minute. Jonathan Osorio replaced Haber in the 86th minute.



Johnson received a yellow card in the 35th minute. Teibert received a yellow card in the 84th minute.



Four Canadian players: Samuel Piette, Doneil Henry, Russell Teibert and Jonathan Osorio made their competitive debuts for the senior team on the day.



Martinique started the match with Kévin Olimpa in goal; and Nicolas Zaire, Daniel Herelle, Steve Gustan, Frédéric Piquionne, Yoann Arquin, Olivier Thomert, Kévin Parsemain, Gregory Arnolin, Sébastien Getinoir and Jean Sylvain Babin across the pitch.



Gael Germany replaced Thomert in the 75th minute. Fabrice Reuperné replaced Daniel Julien Herelle in the 79th minute. Mathias Coureur replaced Yoann Axel Cyrica Arquin in the 80th minute.



Zaire received a yellow card in the 38th minute. Arnolin received a yellow card in the 71st minute.
