Canada conceded three goals in a 19 June loss to Uruguay in its opening match at the FIFA U-17 World Cup Mexico 2011. The Canadians showed well throughout the contest, but a number of lapses of concentration ultimately punished the team.
?I don't think it was a 3:0 game,? said Canadian head coach Sean Fleming. ?I don't feel it was a fair result because I feel we created some great chances, especially in the first half. I feel that we were keeping the ball and creating our chances.?
To make matters worse for Canada, goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau had to leave the match following a nasty collision with a Uruguayan attacker late in the second half.
?We want to play well in every game,? said Fleming. ?Today, for very big parts of the game we did do well. At this level, there are little moments of a football match in which you can get punished.?
At the end of the opening day of play of Group C, Canada currently sits in fourth place. England defeated Rwanda 2:0 in Sunday's other Group C match at Estadio Hidalgo in Pachuca.
