Frank Ashdown... he was 18 years old when he met his wife-to-be Marjorie while roller skating at English Bay on 6 September 1938... married in Winnipeg on 17 September 1943 (when Frank was in RCAF aircrew training)... he was 88 years old when he passed away on Vancouver on 12 July 2009... worked at Productions Supply (Prodco)... Ashdown Park was named in honour of both Frank and Marjorie Ashdown by the Pemberton Heights Community Association in 1996 (the “zig zag trail”)... 
a one-time Dominion of Canada Football Championship winner (1949)... one-time Pacific Coast League winner (1948-49)... led the Pacific Coast League in clean sheets once (1948-49)... 
wrote Austin Delany in 1949, “it is consensus of all concerned that Frank Ashdown played little short of miraculous in this series and it is quite frankly that he above anyone else on the club was responsible for winning the beautiful Dominion trophy”... noted in 1949, his teammates bought him a $22 Stetson hat after leading North Shore to a Dominion title... wrote Bob Harrison in 1951, “Frank Ashdown has always been at his best when it counted most. A great competitor”... as noted in his 2009 obituary, “Frank could put an optimistic spin on anything. His perpetual smile (and corny jokes) will be sadly missed, but in so many ways his indomitable spirit and love of the North Shore will remain with us in his family, legions of friends, and admirers”...
