Young players improving in Men's EXCEL Program along Canada Soccer Pathway

Some of Canada's bright young talent had the chance to meet Canada Soccer's Men's National Team Head Coach Benito Floro this week. The group of 23 players, all aged 13-15 years old, met Mr. Floro during Canada Soccer's Men’s U-15 identification camp in Vaughan.
While these young players have only begun their journey in the Men's EXCEL Program, the inspiration at the top of the Canada Soccer Pathway is a spot on the Men's National Team. On the road ahead, these young players hope to develop in collaboration between club and country, with the Men's EXCEL Program emphasizing player development through the best soccer environments.
"We had an extraordinary opportunity during this camp for our young players to meet and hear some words of encouragement from Head Coach Benito Floro from our Men's National Team," said Tony Fonseca, Canada Soccer's Technical Director. "That connection from our Men's EXCEL Program to our Men's National Team is an important part of the Canada Soccer Pathway."
Canada Soccer has organised three identification camps in February and March 2016, with each one organised in collaboration with the provincial and territory partners as well as professional clubs and academies. The three camps were spread across the country, with an earlier western camp in Burnaby and an upcoming camp in Montréal. All three camps feature players born 2001 or later.
As part of this second camp (29 February to 3 March in Vaughan), the young squad played an exhibition match against Toronto FC Academy. Said Fonseca of the four-day camp, "this was again another great opportunity to see players outside the club environment within the national youth program settings."
Canada Soccer’s Men’s EXCEL Program channels our nation’s exceptional players into the best soccer environments. The Canada Soccer Pathway works in collaboration with our provincial and territory partners as well as the professional clubs and academies. For Canada’s elite players, the program emphasizes player development on the pathway to representing Canada’s Men’s National Team in international soccer.
