Ottawa, Ontario – Canada's Women's Under-19 Head Coach Ian Bridge today announced his 18-player roster for a training camp in Fort Lauderdale, Florida from April 10-14, 2002. During the camp, Canada will participate in a round-robin tournament at the Sunrise Hilton Hotel against two CONCACAF Under-19 national squads, the United States and Jamaican.

The USA and Jamaica will use this tournament as a warm-up for the CONCACAF Qualifying Tournament. The tournament will be held May 7-11, 2002, on the islands of Trinidad & Tobago. The winners of the two groups will earn berths to the first-ever FIFA Under-19 Women's World Championship to be held August 17 through Sept. 1, 2002, in Victoria, Vancouver and Edmonton. Canada automatically qualifies for the Championships as host country.

In the CONCACAF Qualifying Tournament, the USA will play in Group B with Haiti, Costa Rica and Suriname while Jamaica will be in Group A along with host T & T, Mexico and Panama. Group A will play on the island of Trinidad at the Dr. Joao Havelange Centre of Excellence while Group B will play on the island of Tobago at Dwight Yorke Stadium, built for the 2001 FIFA U-17 World Championship.

Joining the camp, following the France International Tournament where they competed with the Women's World Cup team, are Erin McLeod, Kara Lang, Carmelina Moscato and Britanny Timko. Several Under-19 members had the opportunity to train and compete with the Women's World Cup Team at the 9th Algarve Cup and the France International Tournament and Bridge is looking forward to seeing the progress of his team.

“It is a short camp in Fort Lauderdale,” said Bridge. “The team will have the opportunity to play international games against two CONCACAF opponents. I look forward to the game against the US as they are a favorite going into the FIFA U-19 Women's World Championship. ”
