Mike Stojanović

Momčilo Stojanović (Момчило Стојановић)... he was 27 years old when he moved to Canada to play for the Toronto White Eagles... he was 63 years old when he passed away after a battle with stomach cancer...

Canada’s top goalscorer across FIFA World Cup Qualifiers in 1980 and 1981 (three goals in nine international matches)...

as noted by the Rochester Lancers in 1980, he had “a deadly right foot”... as noted in a 1981 Canada Soccer program, "one of the most prolific scorers in the history of Canadian soccer"... wrote the San Diego Sockers in 1982, “very strong player on the ball, turning very quickly and getting the ball well to his powerful right foot. Can be deceptively quiet in a game before scoring the winner”... as noted in 1983 after he signed with Hamilton, “often compared in style and strength to Giorgio Chinaglia, Stojanovic is strong in the penalty area and will complement the speed and skills of Carlos Salguero on the Steelers forward line“...

said Stojanović in 1981, “I score because I play with two beautiful midfielders, Gert Wieczorkowski and Kas Deyna, the best in the league”... as he reflected in 2009, “I was like a thunderstorm from the centre: when I came into the box, I was like a hurricane”...

was honoured by the Rochester Lancers with Mike Stojanović Night on 5 August 1979...
