James Douglas... he was 15 years old when he moved with his family to St. Catharines, ON, CAN... in 1976, he worked as a “draughtsman from Hamilton” when he selected to play for Canada at the Olympic Games... once missed a FIFA World Cup Qualifier match because he couldn’t take leave from his job (a playoff match against USA on 22 December 1976)...

said coach Colin Morris, “he is an excellent example of a tough competitor who plays better as the going gets harder”... wrote Don Lovegrove in 1976, Douglas was “the man around whom the Canadian team revolves”... as noted in the Montreal ‘76 program, Jim was “perhaps the finest midfield player to ever represent”... wrote Bob Bearpark in 1986, “Jim displayed exceptional soccer skills as well as outstanding leadership, both on and off the field”...
