Two provinces and two territories make Futsal Canadian Championship debut

For the very first time in any Canada Soccer national competition, Nunavut made their Futsal Canadian Championship debut along with Alberta, Mantioba, and Yukon on Day One of the 2018 Futsal Canadian Championship from Kingston, ON. Manitoba’s Winnipeg Rovers FC earned three points in their 17:2 victory over Rankin FC from Nunavut while perennial favourites Quebec and Ontario led the way. The eight team format includes five additional teams from 2017 with last year’s champions Sporting Montréal FC joining as Quebec 2 to round out Group B.

Sporting Québec FC defeated Whitehorse Yukon Selects FC 11:1 in the opening match of the competition. Marc-Antoine Bouchard, Guillaume Daudelin-Peltier and Bila Raynauld-Dicko each had a brace, Diego Flores, Olivier Gélinas, Frédéric Beaulieu, and Alexandre Cameron had singles for Sporting Québec FC. Tyler Milton scored the lone goal and an own goal for Yukon, who are attending their first Futsal Canadian Championship.
MB-Winnipeg Rovers FC 17:2 NU-Rankin FC
Winnipeg Rovers FC’s Derek Tessier scored five, Yahia Chihab had three, Derek Mains, Adam Mooi, and Anderson Pereira had two and Alex Castro, Houssem Dhaoui, and Stefan Schuler added singles for Manitoba in their first-ever Futsal Canadian Championship match. Nunavut’s Rankin FC, playing in their very first National competition, got goals from James Merritt and Kris Okpatauyak.
ON-Toronto Idolo Futsal 10:7 AB-Calgary Progressive FC
Toronto Idolo Futsal earned three points from their opening match defeating Alberta’s Calgary Progressive FC 10:7. The highly competitive match was tied 2:2 at half. Toronto’s Damion Graham scored four, Eduardo Jauregui had two, and Marco Rodriguez, Adrian Perez, Jon Alec Duenas, and goalkeeper Luigi Caruso had singles. Calgary’s Graham Fisher, Francisco Puerta and Carlos Melendez Salinas had two goals, while Dylan Tooby a single.

QC-Sporting Montréal FC 9:6 SK Olimpia SK FC
In a rematch of the 2017 Futsal Canadian Championship Final, Sporting Montréal FC earned full points in their opening match beating Olimpia SK FC 9:6. Mohamed Ramzdine Farsi scored five goals while Shaquille Michaud and Berlin Jean-Gilles each had two for Sporting Montréal FC. Jay Tomchuk had two, Jerson Barandica-Hamilton, Juan Quinceno, Nikolas Baikas, and Fitzroy Christey scored for Saskatoon.
