Canada draws 1:1 with Iraq in their opening match at the 1984 Men’s Olympic Football Tournament in Cambridge, MA. Gerry Gray and Hussain Saeed Mohamed Al Abid score goals in the second half.

THIS DAY IN FOOTBALL: 30 July 2006
Canada falls 0:2 to USA in an away Women’s International Friendly match in Cary, NC. Charmaine Hooper (129th) and Sharolta Nonen (63rd) make their final appearances for Canada. Brittany Timko becomes the 13th player to make her 50th appearance for Canada.

THIS DAY IN FOOTBALL: 31 July 1993
Canada wins its first FIFA World Cup Qualifiers match played in Edmonton, AB. Canada comes from behind to win 2:1 over Australia with goals by Mark Watson and Domenic Mobilio in the second half. Australia plays the last 75 minutes with 10 men. For Canada’s Watson, it is the first goal of his international career. For the first time ever, more than 20,000 fans are in attendance for a home FIFA World Cup Qualifiers match – with 27,775 fans in attendance for the important match at Commonwealth Stadium.

THIS DAY IN FOOTBALL: 1 August 1973
Canada falls 1:3 to Poland in a Men’s International Friendly match in Toronto, ON. A crowd of 18,524 are in attendance at Varsity Stadium. Tony Chursky and teenager Bob Lenarduzzi make their debuts for Canada.

THIS DAY IN FOOTBALL: 1 August 1995
Canada wins 3:1 over Jamaica at the 1995 Copa Caribana in Toronto, ON. Tom Kouzmanis scores two goals in less than two minutes to reverse a Jamaica lead, thus becoming the first footballer to score two goals in his debut for Canada. Geoff Aunger then scores Canada’s third goal en route to the 3:1 victory.

Canada wins 3:1 over Cameroon at the 1984 Men’s Olympic Football Tournament in Cambridge, MA. Dale Mitchell (two) and Igor Vrablic score for Canada. Coach Tony Waiters is sent off.

Canada wins 5:0 over Bahamas at the Pan American Games in Cali, Colombia. Buzz Parsons scores four goals for Canada. Juan Monje also scores for Canada.
