Canada wins 2:1 over Italy in a Women’s International Friendly match in Toronto, ON. Robyn Gayle makes her debut for Canada.

THIS DAY IN FOOTBALL: 26 June 1999
Canada falls 1:4 to Russia in its final group match of the FIFA Women’s World Cup USA 1999. Geraldine Donnelly makes her 71st (and final) appearance for Canada.

THIS DAY IN FOOTBALL: 26 June 2000
Canada falls 2:3 to China PR at the 2000 CONCACAF Women’s Gold Cup. Clare Rustad makes her debut for Canada.

THIS DAY IN FOOTBALL: 26 June 2011
Canada falls 1:2 to host Germany in the opening match of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Germany 2011. The match is played in front of 73,680 fans at the Olympiastadion Berlin – the biggest crowd in which the Canadian women have ever competed. Germany holds a 2-0 lead when Christine Sinclair suffers a broken nose in the second half. Sinclair comes back and scores a wonderful goal from a free kick in the 82nd minute.

THIS DAY IN FOOTBALL: 27 June 1924
Canada wins 1:0 over USA in the first-ever Men’s International Friendly match played in Canada. The match is played in front of 3,500 fans at Alexandra Park in Montréal, QC. Ed MacLaine scores the lone goal of the match while goalkeeper Art Halliwell posts the clean sheet.

THIS DAY IN FOOTBALL: 28 June 1991
In its first-ever match at the CONCACAF Gold Cup, Canada falls 2:4 to Honduras after being reduced to 10 men inside the first half hour. After Craig Forrest is ejected in the 28th minute, second goalkeeper Carlo Marini is called into the match to make his international debut. Eduardo Bennett scores on the penalty and then teammates Juan Carlos Espinoza, Luis Enrique Calix and Eugenio Dolmo Flores make it 4-0 in just 23 minutes. Dale Mitchell scores twice for Canada to cut the lead in the half, but it is not enough to overcome the deficit. Mark Watson also makes his debut for Canada.

THIS DAY IN FOOTBALL: 28 June 2008
Canada wins the 2008 CONCACAF Women’s Under-20 Championship with a 1:0 victory over USA in the final. Karla Schacher scores the lone goal of the match.

THIS DAY IN FOOTBALL: 30 June 1957
Canada plays its first away match in FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, an 0:3 loss to Mexico in Ciudad Mexico. With 60,000 fans behind him, Mexico’s Gonzalez scores all three goals.

THIS DAY IN FOOTBALL: 30 June 2001
Canada draws 2:2 with USA in a Women’s International Friendly match at Varsity Stadium in Toronto. The match is watched by a sold-out crowd of 9,023 fans, the largest attendance for a women’s football match in Canada at the time. Christine Sinclair scored the equaliser less than a minute after USA took a 2-1 advantage. Charmaine Hooper, who scored the opening goal, nearly scored the winner in the 71st minute when she hit the post. Also of note from the match, USA’s Julie Foudy became the third player to make 200 appearances at the international level.

Canada wins 3:0 over Guatemala in a Men’s International Friendly match in advance of the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Ali Gerba scores two goals for Canada.
