Québec Soccer award winners

Patrice Bernier was named professional soccer player of the year at the annual awards gala hosted by the Fédération de soccer du Québec. Bernier, who spent the season with FC Kaiserslautern in Deutschland (Germany), was named the 2007 award winner ahead of finalists Ali Gerba and André Hainault.



Bernier was one of a number of award winners on the night. Jonathan Beaulieu-Bourgault (male) and Rhian Wilkinson (female) were named senior players of excellence while Sean Rosa (male) and Sarah Boucher (female) were named youth players of excellence.

Along with his professional duties, Bernier represented Canada’s senior team on eight occasions in 2007. He helped Canada reach the CONCACAF Gold Cup semi-final before losing to the United States.



Beaulieu-Bourgault played for FC St. Pauli in Deutschland and represented Canada’s youth team at the FIFA U-20 World Cup Canada 2007. He was one of six ambassadors on the road to Canada 2007. Wilkinson, meanwhile, spent the year with Canada’s senior women’s team. She won a bronze medal at the XV Pan American Games Rio 2007 and represented her country at the FIFA Women’s World Cup China 2007.



Rosa played for the Élite Montréal-Concordia U-18 team and even took part in a Canadian U-20 camp early in the year. Boucher, meanwhile, won a gold medal with Québec at the 2007 BMO National Championships U-16 All-Star Selects in July and then a bronze medal with the Dynamo de Québec at the 2007 BMO National Championships U-18 Girls Club Championship in Fredericton, NB (Sony Cup) in October. She also took part in three Canadian U-17 camps.



Carol Anne Chénard of Montréal was named the FSQ’s 2007 referee of excellence. Matthew Alfonzetti (male) and Amelia Pietrangelo (female), meanwhile, were named elite youth players of the year. Alfonzetti won a gold medal with Québec at the 2007 BMO National Championships U-14 Boys All-Star Selects while Pietrangelo won a bronze medal with Québec at the 2007 BMO National Championships U-14 Girls All-Star Selects. Fabien Cottin was named elite coach of the year, Attak de Trois-Rivières (male) and Dynamo de Québec (female) were named elite teams of the year, and Suzanne Morisset was named elite referee of the year.



At the regional level, Réal l’Heureux was named volunteer of the year, Québec was named regional association of the year, the Kids play for Kids International Cup was the event of the year, the Spatial de St-Hubert (male) and FC Challenger Rafales U-14 (female) were the regional teams of the year, and Robert Kmec was the regional coach of the year.
