May 2013: Canada slips one place in FIFA ranking

Canada inactive in April, but falls a spot in World Ranking.

Canada has slipped one place to 80th position in the May 2013 edition of the FIFA World Ranking. The Men’s National Team did not feature in any action during April – but were oevrtaken by Senegal who climbed 12 places from 88th to 76th position.

The updated ranking has Canada listed in 8th place in the CONCACAF region.

The MNT’s next scheduled action is a home friendly against Costa Rica on 28 May at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, MB. Tickets to the match are now on-sale. The friendly will be televised nationally in Canada across all-four Sportsnet regional channels.

The FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking looks at each country’s international results from the last four years. The ranking takes into account the result, the importance of the match, the strength of the opponent, the regional strength, the time period, and the number of matches per year. Matches played more than a year ago are valued 50% of matches played in the last year; matches played more than two years ago are valued at 30% while matches played more than three years ago are valued at 20%.
