Junior Hoilett set Canada Soccer’s Men’s National Team all-time record for assists at the international “A” level. With his two assists in Canada’s 4:1 win over Martinique at the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup, Hoilett surpassed Dwayne De Rosario for the all-time record.

“It is a great honour to represent the country and set a record for this country for assists,” said Hoilett. “With the team we have here, it makes it easy for me to get those assists because we have great finishers and a great all-around team. It is a honour playing with this group of brothers and I can’t wait for the next game.”

Hoilett from Brampton, Ontario has recorded 14 assists for Canada Soccer’s Men’s National Team since making his international “A” debut on 13 October 2015 in a 1:1 draw with Ghana. He co-led Canada with three assists in 2016 and co-led Canada with four assists in 2019. Through five matches in 2021, he has four assists including the two he recorded in the 4:1 win on 11 July.

Along with setting Canada’s all-time record in all international “A” matches, Hoilett also set the Canada record for all-time assists at the Concacaf Gold Cup (four), with two in 2019 and already two more in 2021.

In the 11 July record-setting match, Hoilett tied Dwayne De Rosario’s record with an assist on Cyle Larin’s 1-1 goal, which incidentally gave Larin a joint-record for most Men’s National Team international “A” goals in a year (eight). Hoilett later set the record with an assist on Stephen Eustáquio’s 3-1 goal.
