Johnston and Sheridan named Canada Soccer’s Players of the Month for February 2023

Alistair Johnston and Kailen Sheridan were named Canada Soccer’s Players of the Month for February 2023. Fullback Johnston lifted his first title since landing in Europe after the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 while Sheridan was Canada’s star goalkeeper at the SheBelieves Cup as Canada continues their preparations for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023.

Johnston played every minute of Celtic FC’s five February victories and lifted his first trophy with the club. In the Scottish Premiership, he helped the club win another three matches to maintain a nine-point lead at the top of the table. In cup competitions, he was part of Celtic’s 5th Round victory over St. Mirren in the Scottish Cup and more importantly their 2:1 victory over Rangers FC in the Scottish League Cup Final. With nearly 50,000 in attendance for the League Cup Final at historic Hampden Park on 26 February, Johnston helped Celtic beat their oldest rivals for their 21st title in the 76-year old competiiton.

Sheridan, meanwhile, posted her 17th international clean sheet and earned Performance of the Match honours in a 2:0 win over Brazil. She played 240 minutes across three matches at the SheBelieves Cup in February as Canada kicked offf their 2023 international preparations for the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Looking ahead to March, Canada Soccer’s Men’s National Team will play two Concacaf Nations League matches: away on 25 March against Curaçao and back home on 28 March against Honduras. Canada Soccer’s Women’s National Team will play their next match away on 11 April against France.

Canada’s March 28th match will be marked as the first match back on home soil since the Men’s National Team returned to the FIFA World Cup for the first time in 36 years, while also doubling as qualifying for the summer’s Concacaf Gold Cup.
