Five Canada Soccer Referees to make their way to the upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia/New Zealand 2023™

Canada Soccer Referees, Marie-Soleil Beaudoin, Chantal Boudreau, Myriam Marcotte, Drew Fischer, and Carol-Anne Chénard were selected as match officials for the upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia/New Zealand 2023™, scheduled to take place from 20 July – 20 August 2023.

Beaudoin and Boudreau will be working toward their second FIFA Women’s World Cup after being appointed to France 2019, while Chénard will be working toward her third FIFA Women’s World Cup after being appointed to Germany 2011 and Canada 2015. Last year, Fischer played a key role as a Video Match Official at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™.
 
Marcotte has been on the FIFA List of International Referees since 2019 and was most recently appointed to the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup India 2022™ along with Chénard, and to the 2022 Concacaf Women’s Championship along with Beaudoin. Beaudoin was previously a referee at the 2016 and 2018 editions of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup including being appointed to the Final in 2018.  
 
Previously, Boudreau received appointments to two FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cups in France (2018) and Papua New Guinea (2016), the Concacaf Women’s Championship in 2018 and both the 2018 and 2015 editions of the Concacaf Under-20 Women’s Championships. Most recently, Boudreau was appointed as an assistant referee at the 2020 Concacaf Women’s Olympic Qualifying tournament.  
 
Chénard is the fourth Canadian referee to serve 15 or more years on the FIFA List of Referees and Assistant Referees (from 2006 to 2020), and most notably was appointed to two FIFA Women’s World Cups (2011 and 2015) and two Olympic Games (2012 and 2016). Most recently, she was appointed as a Video Assistant Referee for the 2022 Concacaf Women’s Championship and as a Referee for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup India 2022™, including the Final on 30 October 2022. 
 
Fischer has officiated tournaments such as the 2015 Concacaf Men’s Under-17 Championship, the 2015 Men’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament, the 2017 Concacaf Gold Cup, Major League Soccer matches since 2012 and Canadian Premier League matches since 2019. He was also appointed as a Video Assistant Referee for the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019™ and was most recently VAR for the Concacaf Champions League final between Club Leon and LAFC on 31 May 2023.

Heading into the weekend, Beaudoin, Boudreau, and Marcotte, along with Canadian FIFA Referee Gabriel Lemieux, will be officiating the Atletico Ottawa vs. HFX Wanderers FC match on Saturday 3 June 2023.
