Destination: China 2007

With only one month to go, anticipation for this year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup China 2007 is quickly growing. Canada will play its opening Group C matches in two cities: two matches in Hangzhou at the Hangzhou Dragon Stadium and one match in Chengdu at Chengdu Sports Center Stadium.



Canada will start their trip in Hangzhou with matches on 12 September against Norge (Norway) and 15 September against Ghana. Hangzhou is the capital of the province Zhejiang and has a population of more than 6 million people. It is located in the Yangtze River Delta.

The Hangzhou Dragon Stadium seats 51,139 people and it is located just five minutes from the city centre. It is home of the Zhejiang Lucheng football club.



All four Group C teams play in Hangzhou on 12 and 15 September: Ghana, Australia, Norway and Canada. Four other teams visit Hangzhou on 18 (Deutschland, Japan) and 19 (Brasil, Danmark) September. One semi-final match takes place in Hangzhou on 27 September.

While Norge and Ghana travel to Shanghai for their third Group C match, Canada and Australia travel to Chengdu for their third match. Chengdu will first be the home to Group B on 11 and 14 September, featuring United States, DPR Korea, Nigeria and Sverige. This group has already been dubbed China 2007’s “Group of Death”. Chengdu will then host England and Argentina (Group A) on 18 September.



Chengdu is the capital of the province Sichuan and has a population of more than 10 million people. The Chengdu Sports Center Stadium seats 38,269 people and it is located in the heart of the city.



Both the Norge-Ghana (Shanghai) and Canada-Australia (Chengdu) matches kick off at 17.00 on 19 September. There are no elimination matches in Chengdu, so if Canada is lucky to advance beyond the group stage they will bid the city adieu.

The FIFA Women’s World Cup China 2007 takes place 10-30 September in five cities: Chengdu, Hangzhou, Shanghai, Tianjin and Wuhan. The four quarter-final matches take place in Tianjin and Wuhan while the two semi-final matches take place in Hangzhou and Tianjin. The final and match for third place take place on 30 September in Shanghai.
