Canada Soccer’s appointed Olympic officials depart for Rio

Referee Carol Anne Chenard and assistant referees Marie-Josée Charbonneau and Suzanne Morisset

Canadian FIFA Olympic women’s football tournament appointees referee Carol Anne Chenard and assistant referees Marie-Josée Charbonneau and Suzanne Morisset departed Canada today for the 2016 Rio Olympics.

For Chenard and Charbonneau, this will be their second time at the Olympics games having officiated at the London 2012 Olympics games. The trio officiated together at the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup Canada 2014, including the final game, and also at the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015.

Since her first assistant referee appointment at the 2004 Jubilee Trophy championship final, Chenard has become a top international women’s referee. The PEI-born, Ottawa native has been on the FIFA List of Referees since 2006 and most recently officiated at the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015.

Charbonneau was first appointed at the 2009 Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) women’s championship as an assistant referee. The Mascouche, QC native has served on the FIFA List of Assistant Referees since 2012.

Morisset has served on the FIFA List of Assistant Referees from 2008 to 2010 and again from 2012 to present. Her first assignment was as an assistant at the CIS Gladys Bean Memorial Trophy 2008.
