Canada Soccer hires Sara McConaghy as Manager of Development Programming and Wayne Cleverly as Master Coach Developer

Canada Soccer is excited to announce the hires of Sara McConaghy, Manager of Development Programming, and Wayne Cleverly, Master Coach Developer, to its Technical Department.

Sara McConaghy most recently served as the Executive Director of Guelph Soccer prior to starting her position at Canada Soccer on 13 February 2023. In her role, McConaghy will be responsible for working with member associations to create programs for equity-deserving groups including but not limited to women and girls, racialized persons, persons living with a disability, indigenous communities, and new Canadians. McConaghy was instrumental in creating and implementing Guelph Soccer’s successful “She’s Got Game – She Can Coach” program to increase the number of women in coaching positions across all levels of their Club through targeted recruitment, training, and development of women coaches.

Wayne Cleverly most recently served as the Technical Director of North Shore Girls prior to starting his position at Canada Soccer on 1 February 2023. In his role, Cleverly will be responsible for leading the Canada Soccer Children’s Diploma, Grassroots Coach Education Program and Grassroots Standards, as well as continuing to serve as a Master Coach Developer across all other Canada Soccer Coach Education courses. Cleverly was part of the working group that created and implemented the Children’s Diploma in 2018. He has recently served as an Assistant Coach with the Canada Soccer’s Men’s Futsal National Team.

Canada Soccer is responsible for the development and certification of all coaches working with players across all environments in Canada through its Coach Education & Certification Program.
