Canada Soccer announces squads to compete in Scotland and Qatar

Canada v Scotland on 22 March; Canada m23 v Uzbekistan on 25 March and Qatar on 28 March

Canada Soccer’s Men’s National Team Program has announced their squads for upcoming March 2017 camps in Scotland and Qatar. The two squads will represent Canada on separate continents during the FIFA window for international matches.

The Men’s National Team will face Scotland in an away Men’s International Friendly on 22 March in Edinburgh. The Men’s U-23 Team, featuring players born 1994 or later, will compete in a three-nation international tournament against Uzbekistan (25 March) and Qatar (28 March).

For Scotland, Canada’s 18-man squad predominantly features players from European-based clubs who will break during the March window. The squad also features three FC Edmonton players, currently wrapping up a pre-season tour in England.

Unavailable through injury were Samuel Adekugbe and Steven Vitoria, while several other players were not called with the start of the North American season. Fullback La’Vere Corbin-Ong of FSV Frankfurt is the lone debutant featured in the 18-man squad.

Among the most experienced players called into the squad are Simeon Jackson, Nik Ledgerwood, and Adam Straith, all with 40 or more international matches at the “A” level. The squad also features some youth, with eight players aged 24 or younger.

Canada’s U-23 squad features a mix of players with national youth international experience alongside five program debutants. From those players with experience, five have already made international appearances with the Men’s National Team: Keven Aleman, Manuel Aparicio, Maxime Crépeau, Jordan Hamilton, and Michael Petrasso.

The five debutants are Juan Córdova (CD Unión San Felipe), Amer Didic (Swope Park Rangers), Caniggia Elva (Stuttgart II), Mark Gonzalez (Swope Park Rangers), and Jordan Schweitzer (Orlando City B).

Canada Soccer’s Men’s National Team Program is currently preparing for the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup, which runs 7 to 26 July across 13 venues in USA. Taking place every two years, the CONCACAF Gold Cup is the official national team championship of North America, Central America and the Caribbean. Drawing large crowds and millions of television viewers from across the region, the Gold Cup is a celebration of soccer, sportsmanship, and culture.
