Canada prepares for Guadalajara

Canada’s women’s national team has been together briefly this weekend in Vancouver, BC in advance of its Wednesday departure for the Pan American Games, Guadalajara 2011. Canada’s female footballers will join Team Canada for the multi-sport event which runs 14-30 October in Mexico.

Canada’s women’s national team has been together briefly this weekend in Vancouver, BC in advance of its Wednesday departure for the Pan American Games, Guadalajara 2011. Canada’s female footballers will join Team Canada for the multi-sport event which runs 14-30 October in Mexico.



The team’s last open training session in Vancouver, BC takes place Monday 10 October. The team will be indoors for player testing on Tuesday and then depart Vancouver’s International Airport on Wednesday morning.



Coach John Herdman’s side will face Costa Rica on 18 October, Argentina on 20 October, and Brazil on 22 October. The tournament’s semi-final matches will be played on 25 October and the championship final will be played on 27 October.



“We will keep one eye firmly fixed on the Women’s Olympic Qualifying tournament of January 2012,” said coach Herdman. “We will use this tournament as part of our preparations for Vancouver in 2012.”



Forty-two countries will participate in this year’s Pan American Games, Guadalajara 2011. The Canadian team features 493 athletes. Football captain Christine Sinclair will serve as Team Canada’s flag bearer at the Opening Ceremonies.



2012 CONCACAF WOMEN’S OLYMPIC QUALIFYING

This coming year’s 2012 CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Qualifying tournament will take place in Vancouver, BC from 19-29 January at BC Place Stadium. Canada and seven other CONCACAF nations will fight for two available tickets to the London 2012 Women’s Olympic Football Tournament. The opponents are Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Haiti, Mexico, and USA. Tickets to all matches are available via Ticketmaster at Ticketmaster.ca or by 1.855.985.5000.
