Canada makes final preparations for Mexico

Canada made its final on-field preparations tonight at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, AB. Canada faces Mexico tomorrow night on match-day five of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ Qualifiers. The Canadian team will be playing for pride after its elimination on 11 October against Honduras. The Canada-Mexico match kicks off at 19.00 MT.

All 18 players were in uniform (including toques and gloves) for the one-hour closed session on the pitch. Adrian Serioux had already joined the team on Monday, but Charles Gbeke trained for the first time with the Canadians this week after his morning arrival. Gbeke was a late call-in after he won the United Soccer Leagues First Division title with the Vancouver Whitecaps. Gbeke scored both goals and earned Most Valuable Player honours in the 2:1 championship match.



After four games in the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ Qualifiers, Canada has one draw and three losses. Canada also has an all-time record of three wins, six draws and 15 losses against Mexico. Most recently, Canada lost 1:2 to Mexico in Tuxtla Gutierrez, Mexico. Ali Gerba scored Canada’s lone goal of the game, thus becoming just the fifth Canadian player to score five goals in a season.
