Stephen Hart’s side is top of Group C in CONCACAF Round 2 with a maximum nine points from its opening three matches. Canada is looking to maintain its concentration and round out the opening four matches of the campaign with a perfect record.

Canada sailed to a 7:0 win over St. Lucia on 7 October, but head coach Stephen Hart knows that Puerto Rico will be a much more difficult side to break down.

“Puerto Rico is going to be a very difficult team,” Hart told the Toronto media after training on 10 October. “The team has a very good understanding.”

Against Puerto Rico in Bayamon in September, a goal by Iain Hume settled any early nerves before Canada dominated the second half.

“When we played them in Puerto Rico, the conditions were in their favour early in the game, but we went on top in the second half,” said Hart. “We told the players at half time, ‘don’t rush things and don’t give things away.’”

Canada must finish in first place of Group C to qualify for CONCACAF Round 3 of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ Qualifiers.

A win over Puerto Rico on 11 October would put Hart’s side in the driver’s seat heading into the final two fixtures of Round 2: a home-and-away series against St. Kitts and Nevis in November.
