Canada has slipped to third place in its group in CONCACAF Stage III of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ Qualifiers. Canada fell after a 1:2 loss to Honduras at Stade Saputo in Montréal. Canada has one point after two matches.



Mexico remains at the top of the group, now leading with six points after two matches. On the same night of Canada’s loss, Mexico won 3:0 over Jamaica at Estadio Azteca. It took Andres Guardado all of two minutes to score the opening goal of the match. Fernando Enrique Ruiz Arce and Jose Jonny Oliva Magallon added goals for the win.

CONCACAF Stage III of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ Qualifiers runs 20 August to 19 November. The top-two teams in three separate groups will advance to the CONCACAF final stage in 2009. From the final group, the top three teams will advance directly to the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™. The fourth-place team, meanwhile, will advance to a playoff against the fifth-place team in CONMEBOL.
