Canada has been drawn into Group B for the upcoming Women’s Football Tournament at the XVI Pan American Games Guadalajara 2011. Canada, Brazil, Costa Rica and Argentina will all face each other once in the group phase before two teams advance to the semi-final stage.

The Pan American Games Women’s Football Tournament runs 18-27 October, with the group phase played 18, 20 and 22 October. Canada faces Costa Rica, Argentina and Brazil over that five-day span, with all three matches played at the Estadio Omnilife in Guadalajara.

The semi-final stage is set for 25 October, with Group B’s top-two teams facing either Mexico, Colombia, Trinidad and Tobago or Chile. Winners of the semi-final stage advance to the championship final on 27 October.

This will mark Canada’s fourth participation in a Pan American Games Women’s Football Tournament. Canada won bronze at Rio 2007, silver at Santo Domingo 2003, and finished fourth at Winnipeg 1999. The Pan American Games features teams from Americas (football confederations CONCACAF from the north and CONMEBOL from the south).

Canada, whose title sponsor is Winners and presenting sponsor is Teck, will have two Women’s International Friendly matches in advance of the Pan American Games. Canada plays USA in Kansas City, KS on 17 September and in Portland, OR on 22 October.

The Canadian team is currently preparing for the London 2012 Women’s Olympic Football Tournament. To qualify, Canada will need to finish either first or second in 2012 CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Qualifying in January. That qualification tournament will take place in Vancouver, BC in January 2012.
