Canada announces two-game set with USA

Canada’s women’s national team has announced it will play a two-game series against the world’s number-one ranked USA this July. The two sides will meet Sunday 19 July in Rochester, NY and Wednesday 22 July in Charleston, SC. This marks the 17th-straight year that the two women’s sides have met in international competition.

Canada, whose title sponsor is Winners and presenting sponsor is Teck, has already started the season with two wins, one draw and one loss at the 2009 Cyprus Women’s Cup. The team’s next match is Monday 25 May at BMO Field in Toronto against Japan. Tickets to the upcoming home friendly are available via Ticketmaster at ticketmaster.ca or 416.872.5000. The Canada-USA July matches are the sixth and seventh matches on Canada’s 2009 schedules.



Canada most recently played USA in the quarter-final stage at the 2008 Women’s Olympic Football Tournament in Shanghai, China.Canada pushed the eventual Olympic-champion to extra time before falling 1:2. In 44 all-time games between the two sides, Canada has a record of three wins, four draws and 37 losses. In 2008, Canada and USA were the only two CONCACAF women’s programs with winning records (USA was 33-2-1 while Canada was 10-7-7).



The 19 July match kicks off at 15.00 ET at Rochester Rhinos Stadium in Rochester, NY. The 22 July match kicks off at 20.00 ET at Blackbaud Stadium in Charleston, SC.
