Canada announces roster for next two FIFA World Cup™ Qualifiers

Canada has announced its roster for its upcoming FIFA World Cup™ Qualifiers in San Pedro Sula, Honduras and Edmonton, AB. The team will group early next week in Sunrise, FL before heading south to Honduras. Canada plays Honduras on the road on 11 October and Mexica at home on 15 October. Canada is currently taking part in CONCACAF Stage III of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ Qualifiers. After three matches, Canada is in third place in Group 2 with one point, trailing Honduras (six points) and Mexico (nine points). Canada needs a big win against Honduras to gain ground in the standings. Only the top-two teams will advance after six matches.

Canada has selected 18 players for the trip to Honduras. Two players – Dwayne De Rosario and Adrian Serioux – are unavailable for the match against Honduras because of suspensions, but will be added to the lineup before the match against Mexico. Also of note, Daniel Imhof and Issey Nakajima-Farran are injured and currently unavailable.



Seventeen of the 18 players arriving in Florida are coming over from European clubs. Patrice Bernier is back after serving a one-game international suspension, as is Tomasz Radzinski who suffered a hand injury in the 6 September match. New to the FIFA World Cup™ Qualifiers mix are Chris Pozniak (SCO / Dundee), Kevin Harmse (CAN / Toronto FC) and Joshua Wagenaar (ENG / Yeovil Town).
