Canada 2015 celebrated at Canadian Screen Awards

Bell Media wins multiple awards.

The FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015 was celebrated at the annual Canadian Screen Awards on Tuesday 8 March 2016, with the Bell Media / TSN family winning three awards for the production of last summer’s international event.

“The Canadian soccer community congratulates Bell Media and TSN on their well-deserved honours at the Canadian Screen Awards,” said Peter Montopoli, Canada Soccer’s General Secretary. “The FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015 was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for our nation, one that TSN proudly brought to life and delivered to the homes of more than 20 million Canadians.”

The Canadian Screen Awards honour outstanding achievements in Canadian film, television, and digital media. For their broadcast of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015™, Bell Media / TSN were celebrated for:

  • Best Sports Play-by-Play Announcer – Luke Wileman
  • Best Sports Opening/Tease – Matt Dunn, Michael Farber, Devon Burns, Darren Oliver, Steve Denheyer

In Canada, the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015™ was watched by more than 20 million Canadians. Of note, more than 50% of all Canadian girls aged 2-17 watched at least part of the competition. Around the globe, the 30-day competition drew a worldwide television audience of more than 750 million viewers.

The FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015™ was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for Canadians, hosted from coast-to-coast (Vancouver, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Ottawa, Montréal, Moncton) from 6 June to 5 July 2015. With a record-setting 1,353,506 spectators over 52 matches, it drew the largest attendance for a single-sport event in Canada as well as the highest attendance for a FIFA event outside the prestigious men’s FIFA World Cup™.
