BC Soccer celebrates award winners

Kjeld Brodsgaard elected BC Soccer President.

BC Soccer held their 2016 Annual General Meeting and Awards Banquet with Kjeld Brodsgaard elected the new president and Patrick Nelson the winner as BC Soccer’s Adult Player of the Year. Brodsgaard succeeds outgoing president Roger Barnes, who was presented with BC Soccer Life Membership after serving four years as the provincial soccer association’s president.

“Roger Barnes was an incredible President and he will be dearly missed on the Board,” said Brodsgaard. “He has been a mentor for many in soccer communities across the province and we wish him the best in all of his future endeavors.”

At the annual awards banquet, Nelson of Cowichan FC was the 2015-16 BC Soccer Adult Player of the Year. Other award winners included Ashley Cathro as Youth Player of the Year, Russel Huggon as Adult Coach of the Year, Spiro Pegios as Youth Coach of the Year, Nathan Bird as Adult Official of the Year, Kelsey Carrothers as Youth Official of the Year, and Chris Wattam as the Werner Winsemann High Performance Referee Award winner.

Keith Smith won Administrator of the Year, Bob Hope won the Special Recognition award, Susan Dhillon won the Woman of Distinction award, and Jackie Larson won the Sanford Award.

The BC Soccer President’s Award went to Burnaby District YSA while the Fair Play Award presented by Clarkes went to the MWSL’s Ravens. The BC Soccer Award of Merit winners were Sean Arbour, Norm Bradford, Joe Ciresi, Bill Ede, Richard Fast, Pat Harkness, and Terry Hughes.
