Morace announces details for Florida camp

Posted on 30 October 2009 in Women's National Team / Olympic Team

Canadian women's national team head coach Carolina Morace has announced details on Canada's upcoming training camp in Sunrise, Florida. The 12-day camp will run this 3 - 14 November and will feature 22 players.

“This is an important training camp as we continue to build towards the FIFA Women's World Cup Qualification tournament in 2010,” said head coach Morace. “As our program is currently in a transition phase, the time we spend together is very valuable. I have taken this opportunity to expand the pool of players for the senior national team program by bringing in several players who haven't been involved in the national team set up in the past.”

Morace has drawn her roster from a diverse set of sources, including five players who spent 2009 on WPS rosters, five from CIS Universities, three from European club sides, and two from NCAA college teams. Included on the roster are 13 players from the squad that faced the USA during the summer series between the two nations.

In February, the team began a new era under the direction of new head coach Carolina Morace. Since arriving, Morace has led Canada through a full training camp in California, to a second place finish at the Cyprus Cup, and faced the USA in a three match summer series.

The Canadian women’s national team is currently ranked 13th in the world rankings. Canada, whose title partner is Winners and whose presenting partner is Teck, remains the second-ranked team within CONCACAF behind the world’s number-one ranked nation, USA.
