Mini Soccer Enters 9th Year

Posted on 15 March 2006 in Active Start Soccer Fests

2006 welcomes the 9th edition of the Tide Mini Soccer Presented by CIBC, a Canadian Soccer Association initiative designed to develop basic soccer skills, fair play, and sportsmanship in a fun, family-oriented, festival-like atmosphere. Over 250,000 youngsters are expected to participate while over 500,000 people will be attending the festivals this summer.

The festivals run from March to October, but have already garnered a fair amount of attention, with the first set of kids hitting the field in the first weekend of March at two of British Columbia's premier soccer clubs, Pitt Meadows SC and Prospect Lake SC. Together, these Festivals combined for over 1,100 participants, with a total attendance of 3,500. The youth development program targets children under the age of 11 from across Canada, in all 10 provinces and all three territories.

The festivals are run by the local soccer organizations and their team of incredible volunteers, with the help and support of the Canadian Soccer Association and its Partners. The CSA is proud to announce the return of P&G and Tide as the title sponsor of the program for the 5th year, with CIBC enjoying its third year as Presenting Sponsor. TELUS, adidas, Dare and the Government of Canada welcome the program's newest sponsor TEKK.

TEKK, the innovative goal manufacturer, joins the Tide Mini Soccer Presented by CIBC festival team, with an enthusiastic approach to grassroots soccer. TEKK's commitment to changing the landscape of soccer in North America is exemplified through their Free Goal program, and their discounts offered to clubs. National Men's Coach Frank Yallop is one of many supporters of the portable goals, and has described them as the “best training product (he's) seen”.

Through the Tide Mini Soccer Presented by CIBC festivals, local clubs apply and upon approval receive a grant and sponsor benefits in return. The program is a fully sanctioned, internationally recognized development program operated under the auspices of the Canadian Soccer Association, member provincial associations, regional, local and club members.
