Markham Lightning wins Eastern Masters

The Markham Lightning struck gold at the Eastern Masters in Moncton, NB. The Lightning won the Eastern Masters (men's) competition after a 4:1 victory over Prince Edward Island's Boston Pizza Molson Masters FC.

In this men's over-35 championship, Markham had a perfect 3-0-0 record in three games, includig opening-round victories against Longueuil from Québec and Masters FC from New Brunswick.

In the final, Bayette Smith, Chris Rowe, Elvis Thomas and Paul Hillman all scored for Markham en route to a 4:1 victory. Donnie MacKenzie, meanwhile, scored the lone goal for Boston Pizza Molson Masters FC.

In the bronze-medal match, the Cannoniers de Longueuil won 1:0 over Nova Scotia's Athens Masters. In the fifth-place match, New Brunswick's Masters FC won 3:1 over Newfoundland Labrador's Labrador City.
