Posted on 15 March 2006 in Active Start Soccer Fests

2006 welcomes the 9th edition of the Tide Mini Soccer Presented by CIBC, a Canadian Soccer Association initiative designed to develop basic soccer skills, fair play, and sportsmanship in a fun, family-oriented, festival-like atmosphere. Over 250,000 youngsters are expected to participate while over 500,000 people will be attending the festivals this summer.

The festivals run from March to October, but have already garnered a fair amount of attention, with the first set of kids hitting the field in the first weekend of March at two of British Columbia's premier soccer clubs, Pitt Meadows SC and Prospect Lake SC. Together, these Festivals combined for over 1,100 participants, with a total attendance of 3,500. The youth development program targets children under the age of 11 from across Canada, in all 10 provinces and all three territories. More

Festival of the month: August

Posted on 1 December 2005 in Active Start Soccer Fests

Few organizations in 2005 were able to display a Tide Mini Soccer Festival Presented by CIBC like Etobicoke Youth Soccer. The August festival was truly a celebration of grass roots soccer in Canada. Through a seamless integration of sponsor support, extensive media coverage and a clear rundown and recognition in their inter-club Fall Report, Etobicoke Youth Soccer set a new precedence for Tide Mini Soccer Festivals Presented by CIBC.

A special thanks to Joe Couto for showing hundreds of youth soccer players how this great game was meant to be played. More

CSA Launches Two New Educational Booklets

Posted on 9 November 2004 in Active Start Soccer Fests

The Canadian Soccer Association is proud to offer to the soccer community two new educational booklets: “Laws of the Game – Made Easy” and “First Steps, First Kicks – Coaching 6-10 year olds”. Both are now available in English and French and are designed for coaches, players, referees and parents who are involved in the development of the game below the age of 12. “The CSA recognizes the ever increasing need for improved services to the players, coaches, and referees at this level as it makes up close to 64 % of our membership. Assuming success with these booklets, we will need to consider providing similar tools for the older age groups. Parent-coaches need resource materials that are easy to implement, such as a soccer recipe book. So far, most people have expressed the real need for this kind of tool and are pleased to see the product,” said Sylvie Beliveau, National Staff Coach - Community Coaching Development. More

Canada Soccer’s Active Start Soccer Fests 2017 season has wrapped-up with more than 140 community soccer clubs hosting fun-filled festivals in every Province and Territory. As Canada’s leading grassroots soccer program, Active Start Soccer Fests deliver financial, promotional and technical resources which contribute to the hosting of community soccer celebrations in collaboration with community soccer clubs. Canada Soccer would like to recognize and thank the program’s community soccer club partners who contribute significant time and energy to create the best possible experience for young soccer players and their families, encouraging life long participation in the beautiful game.

“Children under the age of 12 who have opportunities to learn the game through free play and experience the pure joy of soccer will become those who are most likely to play the game throughout their life,” said Canada Soccer Director of Development Jason deVos. “Programs like Active Start Soccer Festivals, which provide a nurturing and supportive free play environment, are vital as they allow children to develop the love of the game that fuels the passion for soccer.”

The 2017 season was highlighted by the introduction of Toyota Canada to the family of national sponsors, joining Allstate, Teck, Mott’s and the Government of Canada in supporting the Festival program. The program’s national sponsors enhanced the festival experience for participants through fun, engaging activations at select festivals across the country. Participants had the opportunity to participate in national contests and enjoy giveaways including the Allstate ‘Win A Trip’ contest and sharp shooting activation, Toyota Ultimate Soccer Experience Contest and interactive vehicle displays, Mott’s Fruitsations snacks and enhanced on-site activations, and Canada Soccer coaches bags, stickers, temporary tattoos and participation certificates.
