William Hoyle... served in the Fleet Air Arm during World War II... he was 28 years old when he moved to Canada in February 1954... 
as noted in 2009, “he wore his heart on his sleeve and was motivated solely by what was in the best interest of the game”... wrote John Knox in 2009, “Hoyle exemplifies the talent, dedication and selfless service of the many volunteers which enable participation in and enjoyment of soccer in Ontario and Canada”... said Hoyle in 2009, the Soccer Hall of Fame “is my baby; we’ve spent a lot of time building up its continuity... no one has any idea all the help we got; more than 20 people had their part to play (and) they’re the ones who should be honoured”... wrote Wolf Ruck in 2009, “Bill leaves behind an impressive array of achievements, amongst which is his leading role in the establishment of The Soccer Hall of Fame & Museum in Vaughan”... 

For Sport

served as Treasurer of the Toronto & District Soccer Referees Association... was a founding member of the Eastern Canada Referees Association in 1959... served as President of the Ontario Soccer Referees Association... 
was a member of the Organizing Committee for the 1974 CONCACAF Juvenile Tournament... 
served as Director of Sport Ontario (1978-79) and Secretary of Sport Ontario (1980-82)... served as Vice-President Finance and Treasurer of the Ontario Soccer Association (1978-79); served as president of the Ontario Soccer Association (1979-86)... 
served as head of delegation with Canada’s national team in 1986 (with coach Tony Waiters)... worked Venue Administration for the Toronto Site at the FIFA U-16 World Tournament Canada 1987 (FIFA U-17 World Cup)... 
served as Chairman of Ontario Soccer’s Heritage Committee (1988-2000)... was a founding member of The Soccer Hall of Fame and Museum in 1997 and served as Chairman of the Board (2000 to 2008)...
