Huskie United SAA wins Saskatchewan title

Huskie United Soccer Academy Alumni won the 2011 Saskatchewan provincial championship on 21 August following its third-straight victory at the Premier Soccer League final weekend. HUSA Alumni finished first place out of four teams, thus qualifying for the 2011 National Championships Challenge Trophy competition that takes place in Brossard, QC this October.

The victory also marked the club's third-straight provincial title. As Saskatchewan representative,the team has posted a record of three wins, two draws and four losses at the last two editions of the National Championships Challenge Trophy competition.

As for HUSA Alumni's victory in the provincial championship, its starting XI for the final match featured Jeff Dobchuk in goal, Jamie Hembroff at left back, Jeff Friesen and Jarvis Huyghebaert at centre back, Stephen Patterson at right back, Mark Korthuis, Dwayne Gareau and Ryan McAllister at midfield, and David Patterson, Nathan Reis and David Brown up front.

Also playing in the final were Stephen Krieg, Jay Tomchuk, Steven Irinici, Mike Collins, Mike Veszi and Myles Shedden. On the bench were Mitch Cantin, Brendan Garrity, and Jordan Schidlowsky. Of note, half of HUSA Alumni's roster (10 of 20 players) became three-peat champions on 21 August.

On 19 August, HUSA Alumni's goal scorers were Friesen, Reis, Korthuis and Tomchuk in a 4:2 victory over Yorkton United Impact. The following day, it was Collins (two), Tomchuk (two), Brown, Korthuis, David Patterson and Steven Patterson in a big 8:1 victory over Proletariat FC. On the third and final day, Brown, Krieg and Korthuis scored in the 3:1 victory over Eclipse.
