Girls U-16 Cup: Calgary South West United Napoli ease to victory in opening match at nationals

Posted on 8 October 2015 in ↳ U-17 Cup

The opening match in Group C of the U16 cup was a lopsided affair as Calgary Southwest United Napoli defeated the Yukon strikers by a score of 8-0.

Sacha Wright and Danielle Okumagba put Soutwest United Napoli ahead early, with first- half goals in the 5th and 16th minute respectively.

The game opened up considerably in the second-half as substitutes Alik Kuhn and Damiane Sawatzky led their team’s offensive output with two goals apiece, while Hannah Duguid and Julia Zonneveld also chipped-in on the goal scoring act.

Credit to Yukon Strikers as they defended well for the first half and largely disrupted any rhythm that the Calgary side attempted to build in attack. Ultimately, the Strikers’ legs would tire and Southwest United

Napoli was able to take advantage in the latter parts of the game.

As the score-lines suggests, Calgary Southwest United Napoli would eventually build the chemistry needed to succeed in a national tournament. Most notably, Southwest United Napoli looked confident in possession as they efficiently built the ball from defence to attack on the rain soaked surface.

Yukon looks to re-rebound from their opening day loss with a match tomorrow against St. John's SC from Newfoundland and Labrador at 2:15 local time. Southwest United Napoli heads into a rest day.

Other results:
Kitchener Spirit (ON) 3-0 FDSA (NB)
FC Northwest (MB) 5-1 Prince Edward Island (PE)
Nova Scotia (NS) 2-1 Mountain United FC (BC)
