Canada complete historic two-match futsal series in Costa Rica

Canada Soccer’s Futsal National Team drew Costa Rica 2:2 in the second match of a friendly series in San Rafael, CRC. The draw followed an historic 2:1 first-ever victory against the three-time and back-to-back defending Concacaf champions leading to the 2020 Concacaf Futsal Championship in Guatemala in May.
In the opening match 31 January, Canada Soccer’s 2017 Futsal Player of the Year Nazim Belguendouz opened the scoring for Canada. Costa Rica tied the game before halftime, but, Mohamed Farsi scored late in the second half to secure the result.
In the second match, Costa Rica scored on either side of halftime, but, also had own goals in each half. With the results, Canada improves its all-time record against Costa Rica to 1W-1D-5L.
The team will return to Canada and host a final camp in March before the FIFA Futsal World Cup Lithuania 2020 qualification tournament. The top four 2020 Concacaf Futsal Championships teams will qualify for Lithuania 2020.
