Canada Soccer’s Futsal National Team hosts camp in Montreal on the path to Lithuania 2020

Posted on 22 October 2019 in Futsal Team

Canada Soccer’s Futsal National Team will host a 25-player camp in Montréal, QC from 31 October - 3 November. The camp is an opportunity for the wider player pool to come together ahead of the qualification process for the FIFA Futsal World Cup Lithuania 2020. Head Coach Kyt Selaidopoulos has re-called 10 players from the 2016 Concacaf Futsal Championship squad that came within a single point of qualification.

“The growth of futsal in Canada since 2016 has provided the program with a much deeper player pool as we look to accomplish what we came so close to in our last qualifying cycle,” said Selaidopolous.

The expansion of Canada Soccer’s Futsal Canadian Championship combined with a series of coast-to-coast-to-coast identification camps with Canada Soccer’s Member Associations has expanded the Futsal National Team reach.

“Today we have players who are committed to the program, playing in dedicated futsal leagues in Quebec, Saskatchewan, Alberta, Manitoba and Ontario’s Provincial Futsal Cup, in addition to professionals plying their trade in international leagues,” Selaidopolous said.

The four-day camp is the first of two camps scheduled to close out 2019 before the team comes together in early 2020 ahead of the Concacaf Futsal Championship. The details of the timing and location of the Championship will be announced by Concacaf at a later date.
