Posted on 13 April 2016 in National Championships

Canada Soccer has confirmed the City of Lethbridge and the Alberta Soccer Association as U-16 Cup hosts to this year's 2016 Sport Chek National Championships. Lethbridge will host the youth club competition from 5-10 October 2016.

This marks Lethbridge's third hosting opportunity in the last six years, having previously hosted the U-16 Cup in 2011 and the U-14 Cup in 2013.

"The Sport Chek National Championships encourage excellence in our sport, from the youth to senior levels in amateur club soccer," said Victor Montagliani, Canada Soccer President. "Our host provinces and cities will once again prove to be excellent ambassadors."

This coming 16-17 April, organising representatives from the host cities will take part in Canada Soccer's annual workshop for the Sport Chek National Championships. The weekend will also feature organising representatives from Moncton and Soccer New Brunswick (U-14 Cup), Vaughan and the Ontario Soccer Association (U-18 Cup), and St. John's and the Newfoundland Labrador Soccer Association (Challenge Trophy and Jubilee Trophy).

Canada Soccer's Sport Chek National Championships youth competitions feature some of the country's bright young talents. From the last two years, more than 50 players from the U-14 and U-16 Cups have featured in Canada's national youth program. The competitions also foster the development of referees and coaches while providing a meaningful soccer experience for the host cities and participating clubs.
