Canada opens CONCACAF Beach Soccer Championship

The 2010 CONCACAF Beach Soccer Championship has opened in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Canada fell 3:6 to El Salvador while Mexico won 3:2 over Jamaica in the other group match. In the opposite group, USA won 6:2 over Guatemala while Costa Rica won 5:2 over Bahamas.

All eight teams play every day from Wednesday to Friday 1-3 December. Canada faces Mexico on Thursday and Jamaica on Friday. The top four teams advance to the semi-final stage on Saturday 4 December.

The top two teams of the CONCACAF Beach Soccer Championship will qualify for the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Rome 2011. Five clubs from Europe (Portugal, Russia, Switzerland, Ukraine and host Italy) have already qualified for the 16-team competition.
