Canada M23 wins three points over Panama

Posted on 3 October 2015 in ↳ Men's EXCEL U-14 to U-23

Canada Men's U-23 Team picked up three points through a 3:1 win over Panama on their second day of the CONCACAF Men's Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Kansas. With the win, Canada moved up into second place in Group A behind leaders USA, the perfect hosts who have six points after two matches.

Michael Petrasso, Skylar Thomas and Ben Fisk were the goal scorers as the Canadian team overcame the 10-man Panamanian team.

"Our team suffered through a performance the other day (against USA) and there was not enough time to regenerate," said Canada's head coach Benito Floro. "We played against a good (Panama) team with several good players. Perhaps we can consider the result in this game as good luck."

Canada will face Cuba in the group finale on 6 October (19.00 ET / 16.00 PT) in Denver, CO. The match will be broadcast live nationwide on TLN & streamed on canadasoccer.com via CanadaSoccerTV.

Only two nations from the group will advance to the semi-final stage with a first shot for a spot at the Rio 2016 Men's Olympic Football Tournament. While USA (6 pts) and Canada (3pts) lead the group, Panama and Cuba trail (one point each). The top two teams from Group A will face opponents from Group B in the semi-final stage, with either Costa Rica, Haiti, Honduras, or Mexico the opponents.
