Ottawa, Ontario – Canada's Women's Under-19 team got off to a great start as they played their first of nine exhibition games across Canada (dubbed the Canada Road To The World Championship) with a thorough 4-0 win over Italy at Sherwood Forest Park in Burlington, Ontario, Thursday evening.

Carmelina Moscato scored two goals while Kara Lang and Amy Vermuelen also scored to lead the Canadian attack. Erin McLeod recorded the shutout. Canada dominated the game, outshooting the visitors 17-1.

The Canadians opened the scoring in the 5th minute on a goal by Lang. Vermuelen doubled the score in the 23rd minute when she managed to chip Italian goalkeeper Chiara Machitelli from close to 30 yards out, into the top left hand corner. Moscato then put the game out of reach with two goals in the last 10 minutes.

“This was a great start to our series of games leading up to the World Championship,” said Canadian head coach Ian Bridge. “ It was good to score four goals two of which were exceptional. This is a performance we can build on.”
