Calgary clubs win Western Masters, Classics

The Calgary Callies Elite and Calgary Spirit struck gold at the Western Masters and Classics in Victoria, BC. The Callies Elite won the Western Masters (men's) competition after a 2:1 victory over the University of Victoria Alumni. The Spirit, meanwhile, won the Western Classics (women's) competition after a 2:1 victory over British Columbia's Meralomas A Team.

In the men's over-35 championship, Alberta's Callies Elite won gold, British Columbia's University of Victoria Alumni won silver, and Manitoba's AC Italia won bronze. Saskatchewan's Saskatoon's Arsenal finished in fourth place.

The Callies Elite were the only undefeated team in the championship. Calgary was 3-0-0 in the group phase before winning 2:1 in the final. In fact, the team's only allowed goal came in the final.

In the women's over-35 championship, Alberta's Calgary Spirit won gold, British Columbia's Meralomas A won silver, and Ontario's Rexdale Reunited Elite won bronze. Québec's EDO United finish fourth, British Columbia's Gorge FC finished fifth, and Manitoba's Wisegals finished sixth.
