Boys U-16 Cup: Surrey United SC prevail in battle of coastal clubs

Posted on 8 October 2015 in ↳ U-17 Cup

On opening day of the 2015 Sport Chek National Club Championships U-16 Cup, coastal clubs were pitted against one another in Group A as Surrey United SC of British Columbia prevailed over Fieldians Athletics of Newfoundland & Labrador by a score of 3-0. Goals from Sammy Kajzarek, Noah DaSilva and Dilkaron Kular would ensure a comfortable victory for the provincial hosts.

Under overcast and rainy conditions, Surrey United SC, dressed in red tops and black shorts jumped out to the early lead with two first-half strikes from Sammy Kajzarek and Noah DaSilva in the 5th and 16th minute respectively.

Adopting a counter attack style of play, Fieldians dressed in navy and light blue came close to pulling a goal back as they were awarded a penalty kick late in the first half. After winning the spot kick for his side, striker Emmanuel would step up to take the resulting spot-kick but was ultimately denied by Surrey United SC keeper, Colyn Sebastian, who made a strong two handed save to his right side.

The opening of second-half saw Surrey United SC build the majority of possession as they attacked the east coast side in waves. The Fieldians Athletics back four however, stood up remarkably well against the pressure and limited any attacking opportunities to the flanks and to long range efforts.

Surrey United SC would eventually seal the game in the 75th minute after Dilkaron Kular broke through the Fieldians back-line before moving in from the left wing and slotting the insurance marker to the keeper’s short side.

With the victory, Surrey United SC moves into an early first place tie in Group A with their provincial neighbours, Calgary Foothills. Looking ahead, the British Columbia champions take on Halifax City Soccer club tomorrow at 11:15 am PST while Fieldians Athletics head into a rest day.

Others results:
Nova Scotia (NS) 0-3 Calgary Foothills 99 (AB)
Winnipeg Phoenix FC (MB) 2-1 Codiac First Touch (NB)
Woodbridge Strikers (ON) 3-1 Panellinios (QC)
