Ontario claimed the gold medal in the U-16 Girls All Stars competition after defeating Quebec 2:1 in what was a tightly contested match. Emily Borgmann notched two first-half goals for the home province, while Bianca St-George tallied the lone goal for Quebec.
The first opportunity of the match would fall to Quebec as Marie Levasseur broke in on a partial breakaway inside 3 minutes, only to be denied by Ontario keeper, Patricia Koutoulas.
Shortly after Quebec’s opening chance, Ontario got on the score-sheet through Emily Borgmann who found the ball at her feet at the right side of goal and calmly slid the ball past the on-rushing Quebec keeper.
Minutes after the goal, Quebec would respond with chance of their own as Catherine Cloutier hit a stinging shot from 25-yards out that forced Koutoulas into a finger-tip save.
Mid-way through the first-half, Ontario had a golden opportunity to double the lead from the penalty spot after Simone Wark was judged to be fouled in the box. Emily Borgmann would step up to the mark for Ontario, only to be denied by a strong two-handed save by Quebec keeper, Rachel Matte.
The save from the penalty mark brought life to Quebec as Bianca St-Georges equalized in the 20th minute after burying a rebound that came off the cross-bar.
The game remained tied until the final seconds of the first-half, when Emily Borgmann would once again give her team the lead; this time it was for good.
The second-half of the match was very tightly contested as both teams were desperate to claim the title. After both sides traded a handful of chances throughout the second frame, Quebec would pile on the pressure in the dying minutes. The late pressure from Quebec was all for not as the Ontario defence remained resolute to preserve the victory and claim the 2013 Canadian Soccer Association National Championships U-16 Girls All Stars title.
In the bronze medal match, Alberta defeated British Columbia 1:0. The only goal in the game came midway through the first-half through a strike from Georgia Bignold.
Manitoba/Saskatchewan defeated Atlantic by a score of 1:0 to claim 5th place.
