Recap: Day 4 at the Jubilee and Challenge Trophy competitions

Day 4 in Saskatoon, SK saw the qualification of the teams for the Jubilee Trophy Gold Medal match with Ontario set to face British Columbia on Teck Finals Day 8 October for the Jubilee Trophy. Ontario also leads in Challenge Trophy action with BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Newfoundland & Labrador and Quebec still in contention for the Final.


Challenge Trophy


British Columbia and Ontario lead the way at the Challenge Trophy competition. Surrey BC Tigers Hurricanes leads in Group A and Caledon SC remains atop Group B after Day 4. The top teams in each group qualify for the Gold Medal match of the Challenge Trophy competition on Teck Finals Day 8 October.


Group A


Surrey BC Tigers Hurricanes (BC) 2:1 (NS) Western Halifax FC


British Columbia’s Surrey BC Tigers Hurricanes got a goal from Harpreet Khakh, and Nicky Soolsma got his third in three matches. Shane Rajaraman scored for Nova Scotia.


Edmonton Scottish SC (AB) 4:1 (NB) Fredericton Picaroons Reds

The 2016 Challenge Trophy champions Edmonton Scottish defeated Fredericton Picaroons Reds.  Dexter Maclachlan had two, and Sebastian Carera and Haris Kevac each scored goals. Ibrahima Sanoh scored for Fredericton Picaroons.


Group B


FC Winnipeg Lions (MB) 2:2 (QC) Royal-Select Beauport

Brendan Rattai scored twice for Winnipeg and Thomas St-Maurice and Tresor Pene scored singles for Beauport in a 2:2 draw. 


Holy Cross FC (NL) 3:1 (NT) Yellowknife YK Galaxy FC

Newfoundland & Labrador defeated Northwest Territories 3:1. Jake Warren and Steven DeLong, and Alex Dolomount scored for Holy Cross.  Dillon Torindo scored for Yellowknife. 


Jubilee Trophy


Ontario’s Scarborough GS United will face Surrey United SC of British Columbia in the Gold Medal match at the Jubilee Trophy.  Surrey remained undefeated to finish first in Group B. Royal-Sélect Beauport will face Holy Cross in the Third Place match. Edmonton Victoria faces Halifax Dunbrack SC in the fifth place match and Fredericton Picaroons Reds faces Saskatoon SK Impact FC for seventh place.

Edmonton Victoria SC (AB) 1:0 (GS) Scarborough GS United


Alberta’s Veronique Mayer scored to defeat Scarborough GS United.


Royal-Select Beauport (QC) 5:0 (NB) Fredericton Picaroons Reds

Quebec defeated New Brunswick 5:0. Karyna Fiset scored two, and Geneviève Girard and Audrey Genois had one each. Hayley Gates had an own goal.


Group B


Surrey United SC (BC) 1:0 (NL) Holy Cross FC


Surrey United’s Nicolle Fraser scored for BC who will play in the Jubilee Trophy Gold Medal game on Teck Finals Day.


Halifax Dunbrack SC (NS) 2:1 (SK) Saskatoon SK Impact FC


Nova Scotia’s Meagan McKenna scored for Halifax Dunbrack and Saorla Miller scored the winner late.  Elizabeth Hudon scored for the hosts Saskatoon SK Impact FC.
