Group action continued on Saturday in the U-18 Cup competition at the 2012 National Club Championships and saw Ontario’s Erin Mills Eagles secure its spot in Monday’s final.

Erin Mills entered Saturday’s match already on top of group A with a 3-0 record. The club battled to a 1:1 draw against Coquitlam FC (BC) to reach a total of 10 points so far in group play. Coquitlam FC occupies the second position in group A with 5 points. Raheem Edwards (ON) and James Najman (BC) were the goal scorers.

Ontario’s Erin Mills Eagles will take advantage of their rest day on Sunday in preparation for the Monday 8 October final (11.30 local time). Ontario’s opponent will be decided in Sunday’s final round of group B matches.

Two teams are sitting on top of group B after Saturday’s matches, FC Northwest (MB) and Quebec’s Longueuil. Longueuil (QC) added another win to its record (3-0-1) after defeating Newfoundland and Labrador 3:0 on Saturday. Andy Javier Vialta, Felix Bouchard and Samuel Duffeck scored to lift the Quebec club to a crucial win. Longueuil’s faith in the tournament now rests in the hands of FC Northwest, as the Quebec club has completed its four group matches.

FC Northwest had a rest day on Saturday and will need a win or draw against Saskatchewan’s Unidad U18 on Sunday to secure a participation in Monday’s final.

In other matches, host Nova Scotia fell 0:1 to Prince Edward Island (Lucas Holmes) while Unidad U18 (SK) defeated New Brunswick 5:1 thanks to Saskatchewan’s Kristian McCullough’s hat trick.
