Canada's men's national team lost 0:2 to Estonia on a snow-covered pitch in Tallinn. Despite stadium crew clearing the snow before the match and at half time, the snow continued to come down throughout the ninety minutes of play. Estonia counted both goals in the second half - the first of which was an unlucky break against Canada in the form of an own goal.
There was plenty of snow for this friendly at the A.Le Coq Arena. Both the teams had chances, although the snow on the pitch had its effect. Canada's Richard Hastings struck a free kick that André Hainault headed on net, but Estonia's goalkeeper Pavel Londak made the save. Estonia then made a run down the wing, but their cross only ran through the penalty area and was not on target. Shortly thereafter, Julian de Guzman had a chance with a one-time volley, but it went over the Estonia crossbar.
In the second half, the first goal in the 60th minute was a Canadian own goal. Estonia played the ball into the Canadian end, but then a cross hit Paul Stalteri in the chest and went in over Hirschfeld's head. Estonia's second goal was on the counter attack as the home side broke in and beat the Canadian goalkeeper. Canada did carry most of the play in the second half and did have a couple of opportunities, but not enough to get on the scoreboard. |
